Water sport refers to those sports which are played on or in water such as swimming, water- polo, snorkelling, rafting, and underwater hockey. There are various other sports activities that qualify as water sports like fin-swimming or water skiing, etc.

Swimming

It is a water based team or individual sport. It is the self- propulsion or traversal of a person through water,serving purposes of exercise, recreation or survival. The locomotion is achieved mainly through coordinated movement of the hands, legs, the body, or even both. Humans are capable of holding their breath underwater and learn swimming within weeks of birth, as an evolutionary response. Four major styles of swimming are butterfly or fly stroke, backstrokes, breaststrokes, and free style.

Water Polo

It is a game that consists of 4 quarters or periods in which maximum two teams can participate in a particular match and each team attempts to score goals by throwing the ball into their opponent's goal. A team consists of 6 field players and a goalkeeper in the water at any one time. In addition to this, teams may have substitute players and one substitute goalkeeper who are not in the water. Water polo is typically played in all-deep pool (usually at least 1.8m deep or 5.9 feet), and players needs to be energetic, agile and require high levels of stamina and endurance to play the game.

Snorkelling

Snorkelling refers to swimming on or through a body of water while the swimmer is equipped with a special diving mask, a typical shaped tube called a snorkel, and fins. In cooler waters, a wetsuit is recommended for swimmers. These equipmentlets the snorkeler closely observe underwater attractions for prolonged periods with moderately less effort and also helps to breathe while face-down at the surface. Snorkelling is a popular recreational activity, specifically at tropical resort locations. Under water hockey

In this water sport consisting of two halves, two teams of up to ten players compete while only six players in each team play at any one time. Before the game starts, the puck is placed exactly in the centre of the pool, and the players need to wait in the water whilst touching the wall on top of the goal they are actually defending. Playing members of both teams are allowed to swim anywhere within the play area and try to score by placing the puck into the opponents' goal. Players hold their breath as they dive into the bottom of the pool which is a special form of dynamic apnoea. Play continues until either of the teams scores a goal. Once a team manages to take a lead in the scoreboard, players return to their wall to start a new point.

Rafting

It is a recreational activity which uses an inflatable raft to navigate different bodies of water specially river. This is prevalent on white water or varying degrees of rough and unstable water, and basically poses a completely new and challenging environment for people who participate in rafting.
